Primary Objectives of Position:
To provide support for relevant work experience opportunities by liaising and coordinating with various organizations, developing pre-employment and employment skills for students transiting from school to workplace, providing information/direction to students and promoting programs to staff and parents, in line with AWWA school vision and direction.
Job Reponsibilities
- Formulate and plan a vocational training plan for students by working closely with teachers
- Conduct Vocational lessons and develop students' vocational skills (e.g. awareness of working world, work requirements, interviewing skills, self determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for supported employment /sheltered workshop
- Work together with ITP team, including Allied Health Professional staff and teaching staff so as to ensure alignment of school needs and objectives
- Provide training and support to the students in their school-based work attachment and external work attachment/employment
- Assess and coordinate between industry employers and school in order to manage and meet both parties’ expectations and well-being of students
- Train representatives of participating organizations (e.g. managing students in the event of a meltdown)
- Obtain feedback from industry employers on further support and training during and post work attachment/internship experience
- Assist in resolving issues with employment relations
- Conduct transition meetings with parents to align their expectations on post-school options and future plans
- Prepare reports for communication on information and recommendations to parents accordingly
- Provide proper documentation on all students’ work performance
- Monitor and evaluate students’ progress in school and workplaces for the purpose of identifying areas requiring training and methods for maintaining work habits
Other expectations
- Do sharing at department and/or school level
- Participate in other areas of department-related work
- Attend required meetings, school events and in-service training sessions
Job Requirements
- Minimum Polytechnic Diploma with a credit in English at ‘O’ Levels or Trained Special Education Teacher.
Knowledge/Skills
- At least 2 years of working experience with people with disabilities
- Knowledge and competencies in specific vocational area
- Job assessment, job matching, job placement skills
- Good organizational, planning and management skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Good communication and written skills
