Position Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Dance or related fields
- Certification: Valid teaching certification from a recognized institution or authority.
- Responsibility: Must showcase a track record of responsibility, both in professional settings and in interactions with students.
- Understanding of Duty of Care: Recognize the importance of duty of care in an educational setting and act accordingly to ensure the well-being of students.
- Experience: 2-5 years in teaching Dance as a subject
- This is a part-time position, requiring availability 2 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging dance lessons across various styles (e.g., classical, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, cultural/folk).
- Align lesson plans with school curriculum and student learning objectives.
- Adapt lessons to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
- Skill Development
- Teach technique, rhythm, posture, body movement, and choreography.
- Support students in building strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence.
- Identify and nurture students with exceptional talent or interest.
- Performance Preparation
-Choreograph and train students for school events, annual day functions, cultural shows, and interschool competitions.
-Coordinate rehearsals and ensure students are performance-ready.
- Classroom Management
-Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment.
-Encourage respectful and inclusive participation from all students.
- Assessment and Feedback
-Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
-Keep records and reports in line with school policies.
- Resource Management
-Ensure proper use and maintenance of audio-visual and dance equipment.
-Maintain inventory of costumes, props, and performance materials.
- Collaboration and Communication
-Work closely with other performing arts and academic staff to integrate dance into broader learning objectives.
-Communicate with parents as needed on student development and upcoming events
B. Child Protection and Student Well-being
- Safety: Ensure a safe classroom environment, free from hazards, and be aware of emergency protocols;
- Emotional Well-being: Recognize signs of distress, abuse, or other issues that might affect a child's emotional and physical well-being;
- Reporting: Understand and adhere to mandatory reporting laws, ensuring that any concerns about a student's safety or well-being are promptly and properly reported to the appropriate parties;
- Training: Regularly update knowledge on child protection policies and practices;
- Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information related to students unless disclosure is necessary for the safety of the child or as required by law. All teachers must act in the best interests of their students at all times and uphold the values, vision, and ethical standards of the school.
C. Additional Responsibilities
In support of daily school functioning, the dance teacher may also be required to:
- Take on class teacher / co class teacher responsibilities (where assigned)
- Fulfil proxy or substitution duties during staff absences
- Assist with student supervision during arrival, dispersal, and breaks
- Support the planning and execution of school-wide events, even beyond the curriculum
