PSI Above 200: Haze Measures for Singaporeans
When the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) exceeds 200, the Government’s Haze Task Force and its agencies are ready to roll out further measures to protect children, workers, and vulnerable Singaporeans. These include N95 mask distribution, haze shelters, and arrangements in schools. For the latest haze updates, visit haze.gov.sg.
General Health Advisory
The Singapore Government’s general health advisory urges everyone to limit time outdoors. Healthy persons should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities, while elderly, pregnant women, and children should minimise outdoor activity. Those with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid outdoor activities altogether, and anyone feeling unwell should seek medical attention.
N95 Mask Distribution and Haze Shelters
Eligible Singaporeans can collect N95 masks, two pieces per pack, at designated locations. Eligible groups include Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, CHAS Orange and Blue card holders, Medical Fee Exemption Card holders, ComCare recipients, pregnant women, children aged 7 to 16, and individuals with medical conditions. Representatives may collect using the eligible person’s NRIC. Air-conditioned haze shelters will be available at Community Clubs and selected Residents’ Committee or Residents’ Network Centres. The government assures there are sufficient masks in warehouses and stockpiles.
Preschool Precautions
Preschools will stop outdoor and strenuous indoor activities when PSI exceeds 200. Children should stay in well-ventilated, enclosed spaces, and at least one room with an air purifier will be available for unwell children. Children with respiratory conditions are exempt from indoor physical activities and should have prescribed medication with them. Schools will monitor children’s health, inform parents if a child is unwell, and seek medical attention.
School and Institute Measures
Schools and institutes will conduct lessons indoors and modify them if needed, avoid outdoor activities, ensure classrooms have air purifiers, and monitor air quality. The Ministry of Education (MOE) will consider closing schools if PSI is above 300, which is in the Hazardous range. Teachers will watch for unwell students and send them for medical attention.
