OBBA BBQ & Jjajang at Waterway Point Punggol, the Korean chain's new outlet opening 27 June 2026

OBBA BBQ & Jjajang, one of Singapore's busiest Korean restaurant chains, opened its Punggol outlet at Waterway Point on 27 June 2026. The new store sits at #01-33, 83 Punggol Central, in the mall's East Wing, bringing the brand's mix of Korean BBQ, jjajangmyeon and Korean comfort food to Punggol for the first time. For a neighbourhood that already has a strong Korean dining scene around One Punggol, the arrival of OBBA at Waterway Point adds a proven, mid-priced option directly inside the mall.

What OBBA is, and why the Punggol opening matters

OBBA has run a Korean BBQ and jjajangmyeon business in Singapore since 2012, and the brand markets itself as Singapore's number one Korean restaurant. The chain is known for two things: a jjajangmyeon and Korean-Chinese menu that runs alongside a full BBQ programme, and late-night trading hours at its older outlets, some of which open until 3am. The Waterway Point opening is the brand's expansion into the north-east, joining existing outlets at Tanjong Pagar, Amoy Street, Serangoon Garden and One Punggol (where OBBA Express runs a jjajangmyeon-focused counter).

The reason the Punggol opening matters is the format. The Waterway Point outlet is a full OBBA BBQ & Jjajang, not an Express counter, so it carries the full BBQ and the full Korean-Chinese menu under one roof. That gives Punggol residents a sit-down Korean BBQ option inside the mall, rather than a takeaway-focused jjajang counter, which is what the existing One Punggol OBBA Express already covers.

What to order at the Waterway Point outlet

The menu runs across four pillars. The Korean BBQ side covers premium cuts like pork galbi (marinated pork neck), LA galbi (beef short rib), and yang nyum mok sal (marinated pork collar), grilled at the table. The Korean-Chinese side is what OBBA built its name on: jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and tang-su-yuk (sweet and sour pork). The comfort-food side covers sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), army stew (budae jjigae, sold as a 1.5kg two-to-three-person portion), and steamed egg. The newer additions include kkan-pung-gi (deep-fried spicy chicken) and the Korean Cheongyak rice cake dessert that OBBA has been pushing as its next viral item.

For a first visit, the regulars' order is one BBQ protein (the pork galbi is the safe pick), one jjajangmyeon for the table, and either a sundubu or an army stew if the group is three or more. The steamed egg comes with the BBQ set. If you are ordering takeaway, the jjajangmyeon and tang-su-yuk travel best; the BBQ does not.

Practical notes from the opening weeks

The Waterway Point outlet opened on 27 June 2026, and OBBA confirmed the grand opening date across its social channels in the run-up. A few practical notes from the opening weeks. First, the Fraser Point loyalty system integration was not live on day one, so if you are a Frasers Experience member expecting to scan for points, check in-store for the current status. Second, the outlet is running takeaway alongside dine-in, but the ice cream and some member-only items are dine-in only. Third, reservations are open, and the brand has been actively pushing the member-only reservation channel for the Punggol outlet, so booking ahead on weekend evenings is sensible.

OBBA's other outlets run daily service, typically with a lunch and a dinner session. The Amoy outlet, for reference, runs 11.30am to 3.00pm and 5.00pm to 10.30pm. Expect the Waterway Point outlet to follow similar mall-based hours, aligned to Waterway Point's 10.00am to 10.00pm trading window, with the kitchen closing earlier than the mall.
